Here are the top five stories in New York City today:
- A former Queens prosecutor is facing an ethics probe over decades-old memos in which he allegedly attempted to exclude Black, Latino, Muslim, and Jewish prospective jurors, among other groups. That's only the fourth ethics complaint this week against current or former prosecutors this week alleging juror bias. (New York City Patch)
- One block in Brooklyn's Prospect Heights has successfully reducing its rats population by encouraging residents to place lids on their trash cans. While the laws could take months if not years to wind through the legal system, the panel will determine whether the state has the right to enforce them in the meantime. (Gothamist)
- Protestors, both for and against former President Donald Trump gathered outside of the Criminal Court House in Lower Manhattan and Trump Tower in Midtown throughout Tuesday amid reports that he would be indicted. - A group of teachers represented by the United Federation of Teachers, a powerful union, are challenging their union's leadership over a controversial plan to change city retiree's healthcare coverage to a Medicare Advantage plan which they worry could leave them with less options. They're calling for a member-wide vote on the plan, against the wishes of President Michael Mulgrew. (THE CITY)
