- The rent is too damn low, if you ask the New York City Rent Guidelines Board, who voted on Thursday night to raise rents between 4 and 6% for New Yorkers living in rent-stabilized apartments. If approved in late May or early June, that would represent the largest rent hike since 2013. (New York City Patch)
- Rent is already on the rise, especially for one-bedroom apartments directly adjacent to some of the city's busiest train stations, according to a study released by RentHop this week. Check out this interactive maps to see how big the increase is near your local subway. (New York City Patch)
- Mayor Adams visited Rikers Island on Friday, but it wasn't to tour the jail's conditions which are described by many as a "humanitarian crisis" due to a rise in crime and violence. Instead Adams was there to celebrate National Correction Officers and Employees Week. The mayor plans to go back soon, according to a spokesperson. (New York Daily News)
- The mayor also announced on Friday a $500 million investment in One Times Square, the iconic building that the New Year's Eve ball drops from each year. The building will get an observation deck and a museum chronicling Midtown's history. (Politics NY)
- The Citizen Complaint Review Board got a green light to pursue a disciplinary case against Police Officer Wayne Isaacs, who fatally shot Delrawn Small in East New York in 2016. Isaacs had previously been cleared by the NYPD's own internal probe. (New York City Patch)
