  1. Three waste management companies hired to carry out major renovations at JFK's Terminal 4 have been operating without a license, officials announced this week. One of the companies, LMC Trucking Corp., has connections to the Gambino organized crime family. (New York City Patch)
  2. A New York State Supreme Court judge agreed to put a temporary halt on an over $250 million cut to the city's Department of Education Budget, despite a petition from Mayor Eric Adams requesting the reduced budget to continue. 3. Dozens of detainees in ICE custody were transferred from a jail in Orange County, NY, to a variety of facilities in Mississippi and other parts of New York. Their family members weren't notified, and many of their attorneys say they were only given notice after the fact. (Documented)
  4. A New York City public health official wrote a letter to the World Health Organization urging them to change the name of 'monkeypox,' arguing that it risks stigmatizing already marginalized LGBTQ+, Black and brown communities. 5. The MTA announced the members of the “Traffic Mobility Review Board," tasked with determining the fees charged once congestion pricing below 60th Street in Manhattan begins. They include several real estate executives, and three former or current members of the MTA board. (New York Post)
