NEW YORK CITY — The city is expected to close three resource centers for migrants that help them apply for asylum and other services, according to a new report.

A facility based at the Red Cross headquarters in Midtown, one in Times Square and a center in the Bronx will close next month, Gothamist reported.

The Adams administration has pointed to the decline of migrants arriving in the city and the lack of state funding for migrants services as the reason behind the closures.

Recently, Gov. Kathy Hochul denied the city's request for another $1 billion in funding, according to the Mayor's Office.

We are disappointed to have to make the difficult decision to close a resource center that has allowed us to provide assistance on over 109,000 applications," a spokesperson told the outlet.

Around 38,000 migrants are still in the city shelter system, officials said.

A spokesperson for Hochul told Gothamist that the City has more than $2 billion from the state that they have yet to draw from, which is why this year’s budget did not include additional funding.

In January, the city announced plans to close 13 migrant shelters by June, Patch previously reported.

In total, the city will be cutting 10,000 beds in shelters throughout the five boroughs, officials said.
