NYC Subway Delays: Train Slams Brakes At Canal Street

The incident delayed N, Q, R and W trains.

NEW YORK, NY — A train slamming its brakes in Lower Manhattan delayed four subway lines and forced express trains to run local Wednesday morning. The MTA warned of delays on the N, Q, R and W lines after the train's brakes were automatically activated at Canal Street.

The kerfuffle rerouted N and Q trains over the local R line between DeKalb Avenue in Brooklyn and Canal Street, the MTA said. Normal service resumed shortly before 10:10 a.m.

That wasn't the first time a train unexpectedly hit the brakes on Wednesday. A similar incident happened at Liberty Avenue in Brooklyn around 8:20 a.m., forcing A trains to run local.

Switch problems at 215th Street in Inwood also delayed northbound 1 trains Wednesday morning, the MTA said, though service resumed about 20 minutes later.
