NYC On Track For Phase 2 Reopening Next Week

The next phase includes outdoor service at restaurants.

NEW YORK, NY — New York City is on track for start phase two of reopening Monday, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday.

New York state continues to see declining coronavirus-related hospitalizations and deaths, Cuomo said, unlike 20 other states that have seen increases

“The numbers are good, so New York is on track to enter phase two on Monday,” Cuomo said. “We did it.”

The news comes as New York saw the lowest daily death count since March – only 17 people died Tuesday.

“This is one of the best days for New York since we started,” the governor said.

Phase two allows for outdoor service at restaurants, with restrictions.

It also allows for hair salons, professional offices and retail stores to open though, again, with restictions such as occupancy limits and social distancing.

The Mid-Hudson region is expected to begin phase three Tuesday, followed by Long Island on Wednesday.
