NYC Unveils Next 3 Years Of School Calendars: See What's New

Next year's calendar has been tweaked with more vacation days, Diwali will be an official school holiday, and more.

NEW YORK CITY — New York City public school parents just got a head start on vacation planning through 2026.

The city's Department of Education on Monday released calendars for the next three school years.

"To help our staff and school communities with future planning, we are also releasing the approved school calendars for the following two school years, 2024-25 and 2025-26, which are also attached and will be posted on our website," a release states.

The surprise school calendar release comes after officials slow-walked the publication of next year's 2023-24 schedule.

But it appears that a recent deal with the city's largest teachers union gave school officials enough certainty in the coming years' schedule to release them early.

The release includes revisions to the coming 2023-24 calendar, namely four more vacation days.

Spring recess will now run April 22 to 30.

There won't be school the day after Easter, April 1. And student will have Monday, June 17, off for Eid al-Adha.

And starting in the 2024-25, Diwali will be an official school holiday — a change made possible in large part because of a bill shepherded by State Assembly Member Jenifer Rajkumar and celebrated during a City Hall event Monday.
