NEW YORK — Expect another wet rush hour. Thunderstorms are expected to bring heavy downpours to New York City on Tuesday, especially during the evening commute, forecasters say.

The showers should start in earnest by early Tuesday afternoon and soak Central Park in about an inch of rain by early Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

The system could hit the city with heavy rainfall at times and flash floods could threaten much of the tri-state region, the weather service says. The bulk of the rain — more than half an inch — is expected to hit from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., the forecast shows.
