NEW YORK, NY — New Yorkers will want to bring an umbrella with them to work this morning, as the city is under a "flood advisory" for thunderstorms expected to start Friday morning and linger throughout the day.

The flood advisory lasts until 10:30 a.m., and forecasters are warning of heavy rain, damaging winds and possible flash flooding. The precipitation is likely to continue for the rest of the afternoon and evening.

"Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will move through the region today," the National Weather Service wrote in a "hazardous weather outlook." "There is a chance of a few severe storms this afternoon, with the main potential threat being damaging winds. These showers and thunderstorms will also pose a threat for flash flooding."
