NYC Weather Forecast: Heat Wave Will Hit This Weekend

Tired of this cold and cloudy beginning to the month? Relief is on the way.

NEW YORK, NY — Brace yourselves; summer is coming. A heat wave is expected to hit New York City starting this weekend, sending temperatures into the 90s and bringing some sustained summer weather into the city.

The National Weather Service is expecting a "summertime pattern" in the weather starting Sunday, with "high temperatures reaching the mid 90s" for parts of New York City.

The service says that "heat advisory criteria could be met for some areas based solely on high temperatures."

The Weather Channel is predicting a similarly dramatic swing in temperatures for a lot of the Northeast.

"Over the weekend, however, the jet stream will bulge northward into southeastern Canada, allowing high pressure to develop at the surface over the eastern U.S.," the Weather Channel says. "This means there will be an increased chance for near- to above-average temperatures and lower chances for rain or thunderstorms."

Here's the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, as of Friday morning:
