NYC Weather Forecast: Nor'easter Could Hit By Weekend
Forecasters say there's potential that a nor'easter could develop.

NEW YORK, NY – A nor'easter with rain and strong wind is being eyed for the final weekend in October as unusually cold temperatures could combine with a "sharp, southward plunge" of the jet stream, The Weather Channel said Monday.
The channel, while stressing the uncertainty of a storm that's still several days out, said the large-scale jet stream pattern is one "we typically watch for spawning East Coast storms in the fall, winter and early spring."
During the week, a cold front will cause the continuation of chilly temperatures. Temperatures could be as much as 15 degrees below average through the end of this week in the East, the Weather Channel predicts.

As early as Friday, an area of low pressure begins to organize near the coast in the Southeast. "That low could then affect parts of the Northeast as a nor'easter with rain, gusty winds and coastal flooding this weekend," the forecasters said.
"Snow may even fall in the higher elevations of the interior Northeast."

If the storm does materialize in the New York City region, it is not likely to bring snow. However, October snow is not completely unheard of in the area. In just before October 2011, the region got hit with a nor'easter storm that left inches of snow that brought down tree limbs and electricity wires across the region.
Forecasters say there is still a good chance that the storm will stay offshore, minimizing its impact on New York.
