NYC Weather Forecast: Rain And Thunderstorms Expected For Commute

The rain is set to start Wednesday afternoon.

NEW YORK, NY – Drenching thunderstorms are expected to hit the city Wednesday afternoon and stretch into the evening, forecasters warned. The rain is predicted to start before people begin their evening commute home.

Flash flood warnings have been issued for areas of Long Island. The rain, though heavy, is not expected to be as severe in the city, according the National Weather Service.

Wednesday afternoon:

A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy, with a high near 77. Light east wind.

A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Patchy fog after 10pm. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 69. Northeast wind 3 to 5 mph.

Thursday
A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 75. Northeast wind around 8 mph.

Thursday Night
A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Cloudy, with a low around 66. East wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday
Cloudy, with a high near 76. East wind 8 to 13 mph.

Friday Night
Mostly cloudy, with a low around 64.
