NYC Weather Forecast: Sweltering Heat Before More Storms

NEW YORK, NY — New York City will be under a heat advisory over the next two days as the mercury once again reaches into the 90s before heavy rain threatens to strike again, the National Weather Service says.

High temperatures near 91 and 92 are expected for Central Park on Wednesday and Thursday. But the weather service warns heat index levels in the city could get as high as the upper 90s, creating a particular risk for seniors and people with chronic health problems.

The heat advisory runs from noon Wednesday to 6 p.m. Thursday. The weather service urged New Yorkers to stay cool in a place with air conditioning, such as a cooling center.

Mostly sunny skies are expected until storms once again threaten the city on Friday. There's a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms that day, some of which could produce heavy rain, the weather service says.
