NYC Weather Forecast: Tornado Possible Amid Thunderstorms

There's a chance of severe thunderstorms and even an isolated tornado in the metro area.

NEW YORK, NY — A tornado could strike as thunderstorms pound the New York City area on Wednesday. The storms, most likely to roll in this afternoon, could bring strong winds and heavy rain to the city, according to the National Weather Service.

There's a slight chance the storms could get severe across the metropolitan area and even a possibility of an "isolated tornado or waterspout," the weather service warned. So keep an eye out for funnel clouds like those spotted as rain drenched the city two weeks ago.

Close to a quarter-inch of rain is expected to fall by early Thursday morning while temperatures Wednesday will reach a high near 87 degrees, according to the weather service.
