NYC Weather: Hail, Floods Threaten Commutes As Storm Strikes

A powerful thunderstorm could slam NYC with half-inch hail.

NEW YORK, NY — A powerful thunderstorm could slam New York City with flooding and half-inch hail Tuesday evening, the National Weather Service warned. The storm spotted moving over Jersey City around 3:30 p.m. could also bring torrential rain and winds stronger than 30 MPH, the weather service said.

Every borough but Staten Island will be under a flash flood warning until 5:30 p.m. as the deluge creates a possibility of flooding in urban areas. The weather service warned drivers not to drive into flooded streets.

The drenching follows a rainy Monday and a series of weekend showers that soaked parts of the city in nearly two inches of rain.
