NYC Weather: Hazardous Outlook Issued As Thunderstorms Approach

NEW YORK CITY – A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for New York City as severe thunderstorms are expected to hit Saturday.

The National Weather Service warned of drenching rains and strong winds.

"There is potential for scattered strong to severe thunderstorms Saturday afternoon into the evening," the NWS forecast said.

"Damaging wind gusts are the primary threat."

Th storms are expected to arrive after 1 p.m. and continue until about midnight. More than a quarter of an inch of rainfall is possible.

The whole weekend is expected to be stormy with temperatures in the high 80s.

Friday Night
Partly cloudy, with a low around 73. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light in the evening.

Saturday
A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. Light southwest wind increasing to 8 to 13 mph in the morning.

Saturday Night
Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before midnight. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. West wind 6 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Sunday
A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 89. West wind around 8 mph.

Sunday Night
A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.
