High temperatures can cause heat-related illnesses, and even death. Here are some tips on how to stay safe during heat waves:
- Stay in an air conditioned area as much as you can. It's the best way to fight the heat.
- Drink more water than usual, and don't wait until you're thirsty to drink.
- Avoid using the stove or oven to cook, as they will raise the temperature of your home.
- Limit your outdoor activity, especially during midday hours when it is hottest.
- Wear loose, lightweight and light-colored clothes.
- Take cool showers or baths during the day to cool down.
