NEW YORK — February might be nearly over, but winter sure isn't. An inch of snow is expected to strike New York City midweek amid a streak of windy days.

Snowfall could start as early as about 1 p.m. Wednesday and continue into early Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service. The bulk of the flakes could come between about 7 p.m. Wednesday and 1 a.m. Thursday, when half an inch is expected to hit Central Park, the forecast shows.

The flakes will arrive on a chilly, mostly cloudy Wednesday with a high near 29 degrees and early-morning wind chills in the teens, the weather service says.

Things will warm up a bit later in the week, with the mercury reaching a high near 40 on Friday before snow and rain come back into the forecast, according to the weather service.
