NYC Weather: 'Intense' 100-Degree Heat Index Will Hit City
A two-day heat advisory starting Tuesday prompted city officials to open cooling centers.
NEW YORK CITY — Labor Day may have passed, but late-summer heat isn't over in New York City.
The city is under a two-day heat advisory starting Tuesday at 11 a.m. that warns of heat indices up to 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
The advisory ends Wednesday at 8 p.m., but forecasters warned it could be extended.

The potentially deadly heat prompted city officials to open cooling centers across the city.
"As these final summer days bring intense heat, I urge all New Yorkers to follow public health guidance and look out for one another," said Zach Iscol, the city's emergency management commissioner.

"This weather puts our elderly, children, and anyone with chronic health conditions at increased risk and it's important we all take measures to protect ourselves and our loved ones."
