NEW YORK — The rain won't be gone for long. More thunderstorms could batter New York City over the weekend after a streak of nasty wet weather.

Storms will loom over the city through most of Sunday, with more than a quarter-inch of rain expected to hit Central Park by early Monday morning, the National Weather Service warns.

Showers and thunder could hit as soon as Saturday evening after a mostly sunny day with a high near 82 degrees, the forecast shows.

The chance of gloomy weather follows a streak of storms that drenched Central Park in nearly two inches of rain from Tuesday to early Friday morning, according to the weather service's measurements. The batch of rough weather even included a tornado warning affecting parts of the city on Tuesday evening.
