NYC Weather: Snow Could Fall After Rainy Weekend Storm

Up to 1.5 inches of rain, along with 50 mph wind gusts, is expected Friday night into Saturday before snow enters the weekend forecast.

NEW YORK CITY — Get ready for a second round of rainy New York City weather, this time followed by a chance of snow.

A strong storm will blow through the city late Friday into Saturday and threatens to dump 1.5 inches of rain across the boroughs, along with 50 mph wind gusts, officials said.

The city is under multiple National Weather Service alerts: a hazardous weather outlook, a wind advisory and a coastal flood advisory.

"The heaviest rain will be from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.," a city emergency management weather alert states.

"Minor flooding is likely, resulting in scattered disruptions to transportation and minor flooding of basements, first floors, and some underground infrastructure. Isolated thunderstorms and lightning are also possible overnight."

The strong storm system will largely fade away Saturday, which is expected to be mostly sunny, albeit windy, according to the National Weather Service's forecast.

Snow then enters Sunday's forecast, along with the chance of rain showers.

Increasing clouds, with a high near 50. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph becoming east in the afternoon.

Friday Night
Rain, with thunderstorms also possible after 1am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Temperature rising to around 53 by 5am. Breezy, with an east wind 11 to 16 mph increasing to 20 to 25 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 48 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Saturday
A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 7am. Mostly sunny, with a temperature falling to around 49 by 5pm. Windy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph increasing to 21 to 26 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 38 mph.

Saturday Night
Mostly clear, with a low around 34. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. Breezy, with a west wind 18 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph.

Sunday
A slight chance of rain and snow showers between 1pm and 4pm, then a slight chance of snow showers after 4pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 40. Breezy, with a southwest wind 16 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
