NYC Weather: Big Freeze's End In Sight As Springtime Temps Near

Expect frigid air and some snow on Friday before temperatures rise over the weekend.

NEW YORK — Keep those wool socks on for one more day. Bitter cold will maintain its grip on New York City on Friday before spring-like temperatures roll in next week, the National Weather Service says.

The weather service warned of wind chills as cold as about 5 below zero across the city in the morning, so it's best to layer up for the commute before the temperature warms to a high near 22 degrees.

Central Park will feel warmer than zero around 9 a.m. but the wind chill there won't get into the double digits until about noon, the forecast shows. There's also a chance of snow flurries in the afternoon, the weather service says.

But relief is on its way — the mercury will get into the mid-30s on Saturday and rise to a balmy high near 47 on Sunday, the weather service says.

Tuesday will feel like summer compared to this week with a high near 60, about 20 degrees above normal, according to the weather service.
