NEW YORK, NY — Record-breaking warm temperatures will give way to potential thunderstorms as a severe weather system moves across the country, according to forecasters.

Severe storms crossing the U.S. Monday could dump more than a quarter inch of rain on the city Monday night and send winds gusting at nearly 45 mph, forecasters say.

The potential storm follows a 68 degree day in New York City which broke the record high for March 6 at several National Weather Service outposts, the forecasters tweeted Sunday.
