NYC Weather: Weekend Brings Some Sun, Also Thunder And Rain

NEW YORK CITY — Don't expect perfect blue skies this weekend, but don't expect to boil on the concrete either.

The weather in New York City is predicted to stay in the mid 80s over the weekend with some clouds Saturday morning and a chance of rain and thunder Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunday afternoon will see some sun, but the night brings a 30 percent chance of showers that will continue into Monday morning, forecasters said.

Rain forecasts come as Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island face drought conditions amid an unusually dry summer.

"The latest Drought Monitor Map shows areas of severe and extreme drought expanding," New York National Weather Service forecasters tweeted Thursday. "We remain dry today and likely at least through the first half of the weekend."

A slight chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 78. Southeast wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
