NYC Weather: Wind Gusts Up To 50 MPH, Heavy Rain, Storms Loom
A windy, wet, freezing and potentially stormy night lies ahead for New Yorkers.
NEW YORK CITY — An ill wind is poised to blow through New York City.
Wind gusts up to 50 mph, heavy rain, potential thunderstorms and plunging temperatures will make for an unpleasant Wednesday evening, according to the National Weather Service's forecast.
The city will be under a wind advisory from 4 p.m. until Thursday at 7 a.m., in addition to a hazardous weather outlook.

"Strong winds are expected," a National Weather Service briefing states. "Isolated damaging winds are possible."
The strongest winds are expected between 7 p.m. and Thursday at 3 a.m. as a cold front blows through the city, the briefing states.

The wind will be paired with a 100 percent chance of rain, according to the forecast.
Isolated thunderstorms embedded with heavier showers could also arise, the National Weather Service briefing states.
And temperatures are also expected to swing from 60-degree highs during the day and plunge to below freezing at night.
"Possible icy patches that develop where there are leftover puddles of water," the briefing states. "Potential impacts of slippery conditions for untreated surfaces."

Intermittent rain. Cloudy, with a high near 60. Breezy, with a south wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 10pm, then a chance of showers between 10pm and 1am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Low around 31. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Breezy, with a south wind 18 to 24 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 47 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 39. Wind chill values between 20 and 30. Breezy, with a west wind 17 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph.
