NEW YORK CITY — So long, snow. Hello, ice.

Icy conditions are likely Tuesday evening and into Wednesday as temperatures plummet below freezing after a nor'easter dumped inches of wet snow across New York City, forecasters warned.

"Melted snow and standing water on area roadways will likely become icy, especially on untreated surfaces," a National Weather Service special weather statement reads.

"Use extra caution if traveling tonight through early Wednesday morning."

Snowfall totals from the winter storm varied wildly across the city, National Weather Service data shows.

Central Park saw 3.2 inches of snow, while Coney Island saw nearly 7 inches, according to the data.

Preliminary snowfall tallies fell short of the 11-inch worst case.

But that didn't mean New Yorkers were out of the wintry weather woods.

Officials warned from early Tuesday that relatively warmer weather could lead to snow melt.

"That could then turn to ice when it refreezes," said Zach Iscol, the city's emergency management commissioner.

NEW YORK CITY — Remote learning for New York City's public school students during the snowstorm got off to a slippery, frustrating start.

School officials confirmed widespread login issues for students as Tuesday's classes were slated to start.

IBM added capacity and improvements about 9:30 a.m. to solve the problem, officials said. But, by then, many parents and students were simply so frustrated that they questioned why classes weren't canceled outright.

"Just give up and declare a Snow Day," one New Yorker tweeted. "You shouldn't worry about switching to remote learning unless it's a particularly snowy winter and we've used up the 3-4 days that used to be allowed for snow days."

"So basically kids learning nothing like predicted, while adults had to scramble for childcare & go to work today," another tweeted.

NEW YORK CITY — New York City's biggest snowstorm in years is here — and it's a wintry doozy.

Up to 11 inches of snow could fall across the city Tuesday, National Weather Service meteorologists warned in a revised worst-case forecast for the nor'easter.

An inch of snow fell on Central Park by 7 a.m., according to weather data, and at least 5 inches is expected throughout the day.

Mayor Eric Adams repeated a warning for New Yorkers to stay home.

"We're telling New Yorkers if you can stay home, stay home, because visibility is going to be extremely poor tomorrow," he said during a Tuesday interview on 1010WINS.

Not that there's much for New Yorkers to do outside their homes.

In-person classes at public schools are canceled, and all branches of New York City's three library systems are closed.

Adams encouraged New Yorkers to use public transportation instead of driving, as city plows crisscross streets. Alternate side parking is also suspended to ease the plows' paths.

Subways thankfully saw few delays, the MTA posted.

The L line had the worst winter storm-related delays, according to an MTA post.

And thousands of air travelers found themselves stuck in New York City.

LaGuardia Airport had 416 cancelations and 55 delays, as of rough 9 a.m., according to FlightAware.

JFK Airport had 170 cancelations and 66 delays at the same time, FlightAware reported.

A winter storm warning remains in effect until 6 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Gov. Kathy Hochul said the storm is likely to wrap up by early afternoon.

"It's how Mother Nature is sending her love for Valentine's Day with the biggest snowstorm to hit New York City in three years," she said.
