NYPD Responds To Brawl Aboard Carnival Magic Cruise Ship: Cops

A cruise line dance floor argument turned violent Tuesday morning off the coastline of New York City, according to the NYPD.

NEW YORK CITY — Not everyone was having a magical time on a Carnival cruise ship Tuesday morning when the NYPD responded to a nightclub brawl, according to police.

The violent fight erupted on the dance floor of the Carnival Magic near the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, which connects Brooklyn and Staten Island, some time before 5:20 a.m., the NYPD told Patch.

Police say it's unclear whether the nightclub brawl occurred on international waters, as the 1,000-foot long boat was attempting to dock between New York and New Jersey.

"We are unsure of [which state] the incident took place," police said. "But that is under investigation right now.”

A number of guests were involved in the nightclub altercation but no one was badly hurt, according to Carnival Cruise spokesman Matt Lupoli in a statement.

“Thankfully no serious injuries were reported and our onboard security team intervened,” said Lupoli. “The ship arrived as scheduled this morning."

Cruise security officers called the U.S. Coast Guard, which escorted the ship to Pier 88 in Hell's Kitchen, where cops were waiting, the NYPD said and Carnival Cruise confirmed.

"We wanted to make sure that when the individuals got off the boat there was no further disputes on the streets in Manhattan," the NYPD spokesperson said. “They were there to expedite the disembarkation process."

Neither police nor Lupoli had information on how many passengers were interviewed, but the NYPD noted there were no further conflicts.

“The ship arrived on schedule,” he said. “There are no arrests at this time.”

Correction: The headline was updated to better specify that the NYPD did not board the Carnival Magic cruise ship.
