NYPD Steps Up DWI Enforcement Over Fourth of July Weekend

The NYPD wants you to be safe this holiday weekend when you are traveling home from celebrating the holiday.
Police will be stepping up DWI enforcement across the city in order to catch drivers who are driving while impaired or intoxicated.

“Independence Day is a time for families and friends across our great nation to get together under our flag to celebrate the birth of our nation,” Police Commissioner William J. Bratton said in a statement. “In order to maintain the safety of those traveling to and from events taking place during the holiday weekend, the men and women of the New York Police Department will be out in full force conducting DWI enforcement throughout our city. We remind all those enjoying the holiday weekend to please do so responsibly.”
The NYPD points out there have been just 10 fatal collisions involving impaired drivers so far in 2016 — down 47 percent year-to-date in 2015. They have made a total of 4,358 DWI arrests so far this year.

"Every New Yorker should feel safe on our city's streets, and the NYPD will be out in full force protecting our residents and visitors this 4th of July weekend,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio.
