'Ocean's 8': Film Review
Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway and Rihanna are just a few of the A-Listers starring in this hilarious heist film.
17 years after "Ocean’s 11" graced the big screen, another heist is underway in "Ocean’s 8." This time, the operation is led by an all-female group of cons who seem to love danger just as much as the men did in the original flick. With an A-list cast that includes Oscar, Emmy and Grammy winners, this film is a scintillating, fun must-see for moviegoers.

Leading the all-star cast and heist pack is Sandra Bullock, who plays the titular role of Debbie Ocean, the estranged sister of George Clooney’s Danny Ocean. We meet her as she is being paroled after serving five years in prison, promising to be a law-abiding citizen in her community. Well, doesn’t the parole board know any better about the Ocean’s family’s claim to fame? Of course not. And so, off she goes, setting in motion the heist of the century.
Debbie’s next-to-impossible hit? A $150 million Cartier diamond necklace that she and her assembled team of specialists will steal off of celebrity Daphne Kluger (Anne Hathaway) at the illustrious Met Gala.

Her partner-in-crime is her bestie Lou (Cate Blanchett), who has a penchant for wearing glamorous rocker outfits. Other members of their team include fashion designer Rose Weil (Helena Bonham Carter), jeweler Amita (Mindy Kaling), hacker Nine Ball (Rihanna), suburban mom Tammy (Sarah Paulson) and pickpocket Constance (Awkwafina).
Director Gary Ross managed to get the best out of the start-studded ensemble cast, and all of the film's actresses deliver solid performances filled with delicious one-liners and zingers. However, the most valuable player is Hathaway, who steals the show with her hairpin comic timing and her delightful acerbic tone she brings to her spoiled, bratty character.

Like many heist movies, the screenplay languishes at times, with plot holes, inconceivable twists and complications. However overall, "Ocean’s 8" will steal your hearts — and that’s the real heist in the movie.
