- A newly introduced City Council bill would add sugar warnings to sweet beverages in chain restaurants with fifteen or more locations across New York City. Former Mayor Michael Bloomberg's last attempt to reform the sweet beverage industry by reducing the legal size of drinks was shot down for good by the courts in 2014. (New York City Patch)
- Two people with Legionnaires' disease at a Manhattan nursing home have died, amidst an outbreak that has infected at least eight people. It's unclear whether their cause of death was the disease itself, and the infection's source hasn't yet been determined. (subscription: The New York Times)
- "The People’s Money," New York City's first-ever citywide participatory budget process, will soon give New Yorkers the opportunity to decide how to spend $5 million to support resident's day-to-day lives. New Yorkers over 11-years-old can share their ideas at meetings. Voting will begin next spring. (Pix 11)
- Would you believe it? New York City dwellers' consumer sentiment — a measure of economic optimism or pessimism — stood at 78.4 points over the summer months, according to a new poll. That's higher than the national average of 58.2. (New York City Patch)
- Mayor Eric Adams wants to "reassess" the way New York City handles emergency shelter requests, according to a statement on Wednesday, after news outlets questioned whether the administration recently broke the law by not providing beds to dozens of men at a homeless shelter. The mayor's press secretary said he doesn't indent to end the city's 1979 right-to-shelter law . (Gothamist)
