- Mayor Eric Adams has promised to lower crime rates in New York City from day one of his campaign. A former police officer himself, he announced recently alongside Governor Kathy Hochul his commitment to "flooding" the MTA with cops. However, only two weeks into his administration and crime is 65% up in the transit system from this time last year. (New York City Patch)
- Politicians, NYPD members, and faith leaders, came together on Saturday to mourn the loss of 22-year-old police officer Jason Rivera, who was shot in Harlem on Friday. (amNY)
- Multiple dogs appear to be suffering from an outbreak of leptospirosis, a disease spread by rats, at a dog run in McCarren Park, Brooklyn. Health experts recommend that all owners vaccinate their dogs, given the city's overall high rat population. (Gothamist)
- Caribbean-rooted, Bronx-based artist Laura James, whose colorful pictures of Biblical figures have earned her recognition all the way to the Vatican. (New York Daily News)
