Gas Explosion Causes Partial Collaspe Of NYC Apartment Building: FDNY

NEW YORK CITY — Part of an apartment building in the Bronx collapsed after a gas explosion Wednesday morning, according to the FDNY.
The incident happened at 205 Alexander Ave. around 8:10 a.m. Firefighters were responding to a report of a gas explosion that caused the collapse of an incinerator shaft in the building.

Mayor Eric Adams posted on X telling New Yorkers to avoid the area for their safety.
"I have been briefed about the emergency situation taking place in the Mott Haven area of the Bronx. We are getting a full assessment from first responders and will continue to provide updates," he wrote.

No residential units were affected from the collapse, officials said. No injuries have been reported from the incident.
In addition to emergency personnel, Department of Building inspectors and Con Edison have responded to the scene.
An investigation remains ongoing.
