Pilot Dies Mid-Flight To Turkey, Forcing Emergency JFK Landing

NEW YORK CITY — An airline pilot apparently died mid-flight, forcing an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport Wednesday morning, according to the FAA.

The plane landed around 6 a.m. at the airport after a co-pilot took over, according to an NBC News report.

The flight took off from Seattle Tuesday evening and was expected to land in Istanbul before the incident occurred, according to the report.

İlçehin Pehlivan, 59, reportedly "fainted during the flight" and when medical assistance proved ineffective, the co-pilot opted to land the plane, Turkish Airlines told the outlet.
