Police Shoot Burglary Suspect Fleeing Home in Maspeth, Queens

The NYPD confirms there was a police-involved shooting in Queens targeting a burglary suspect.

NEW YORK, NY — Two people were hurt, including a burglary suspect, in a police-involved shooting in Maspeth, Queens on Monday afternoon.

According to the NYPD, a woman was watching a live feed of her home from a nanny cam when she saw a stranger enter her house at 66-33 Hull Avenue early Monday afternoon. She contacted police, which arrived on the scene and encountered the burglary suspect in the woman's apartment. A struggle ensued and the 37-year-old suspect was shot once in the groin, and transported to Booth Memorial Hospital, where he is in stable condition.

Police charged Felix Perez of Crown Heights, Brooklyn with burglary, criminal possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.

No police were injured and authorities said the officer who shot the suspect was a "highly decorated" 10-year veteran of the force.

Police also found a woman, 36, lying in her driveway three-quarters of a block away with a head wound. She was transported to Elmhurst Hospital, where doctors removed a small piece of wire from her scalp, but police are still investigating what happened.

The police, who have yet to name the suspect, said the man was wanted for six other burglaries in the area, including some in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

NBC New York reporter Checkey Beckford tweeted a link to a video she said was from the shooting scene. Police officers can be seen in the vicinity of the building and while nothing is shown on camera, a gun shot and scream can be heard right at the end of the video.

Police said the woman in the video seen entering the house was the homeowner, and she was concerned about the safety of her dog, which she removes at the end of the video.
