See Options For NYC Back-To-School Schedules Unveiled Next Week
Parents starting next week will learn which days their kids will be in-class under five schedule options chosen by individual schools.
NEW YORK CITY — In-person schedules for New York City schools will be unveiled next week as students, parents and teachers prepare for a back-to-school season unlike any other.
Roughly 1,200 schools are poised to finalize students schedules, city Department of Education officials said Friday.
Most schools — 1,067, to be precise — opted for a schedule model crafted by the district, officials said. Another 125 schools requested and were approved for an exception, while 236 more exceptions are under review.

The schedule models are for students who will go back to school under "blended learning" — an alternating mix of in-person and remote learning days.
"Models were approved beginning the week of August 3rd, and some schools already have their students programmed and are ready to communicate to families starting Monday," according to a letter released by Miranda Barbot, a spokesperson for the Department of Education.

The models and breakdowns of schools that chose them, according to a release, are:
- Model 1 — 573 schools — Two cohorts with consistent days two days a week, and one alternating day. Students will have five days of in-person instruction every two weeks.
- Model 2 — 279 schools — Three cohorts with one consistent day a week, and two alternating days. Students will have five days of in-person instruction every three weeks.
- Model 3 — 151 schools — Three cohorts on a six-day rotation, only available to middle and high schools. Students will have five days of in-person instruction every three weeks.
- Models 4 and 5 — 64 schools — Available only to District 75. May have students in school every other week for five days straight, with potential for some groups to be in-person full-time, dependent on student need.
