The line of thunderstorms is expected to be at its worst in the late afternoon and early evening — right as people are leaving work to travel for Fourth of July. According to AAA, 43 million were expected to be traveling this weekend — the highest number since they began tracking it in 2001.

Lower gas prices contributes to that increase, but people are taking the sky as well. AAA expects an increase of 2.2 percent in air travel this year as compared to last year's Fourth of July holiday.
