Severed Subway Leg Dragged Uptown From Downtown Body, Says NYPD Theory

NEW YORK CITY — A severed leg found along Bronx subway tracks over the weekend could have been dragged from Manhattan, where a man days earlier had been fatally struck by a train, police said.

This gruesome scenario is NYPD investigators' working theory for how the disembodied leg came to rest along 4 line tracks, where it was found Feb. 17, a police spokesperson told Patch.

Tests are underway to find if the leg is a match for a man who died Feb. 12 after being struck by a train in Lower Manhattan, police said.

The as-yet-unidentified man's body was badly dismembered, a spokesperson said.

Police believe the man's leg could have been dragged miles up the 4 line to where it was ultimately discovered between the 167th Street and 170th Street stops, authorities said.

No crime is suspected, police said.
