Here are the top five stories today in New York City:

  1. New York Attorney General Leticia James said late on Tuesday that the Trump Organization had misrepresented the value of its property in New York and California, leading it to receive millions in tax breaks. AG James did not state whether she would pursue direct legal action. The Trump Organization released a statement calling the civil investigation "baseless." (Associated Press)
  2. Pop star from The Bronx Cardi B announced she would pay for the funeral expenses of the 17 people who perished in last week's Bronx fire. (New York City Patch)
  3. A 16-year-old shot a single bullet, hitting both himself and a police officer, late Tuesday night at Lorillard Place and East 187th Street in The Bronx. The two were rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital and are expected to make full recoveries. (New York City Patch)
  4. The teenager who fatally shot Barnard College student Tessa Majors in Morningside Park in 2019 was sentenced Wednesday. Rashaun Weaver was sentenced to 14 years to life in prison, after being arrested in February 2020. (New York City Patch)
  5. Mayor Eric Adams announced yesterday his plan to "reimagine" 1,000 of New York City's most dangerous street crossings, by raising sidewalks, creating new bike corrals, and adding new turn signals. These changes will come with increased enforcement of a new law requiring vehicles to fully stop – not just yield – to pedestrians at crosswalks without lights. (New York City Patch)
