Strong Thunderstorms Expected Tuesday Afternoon, Evening

There is finally a slight bit of relief coming for the 90-degree weather that's been plaguing the city.

NEW YORK, NY — There's a bit of relief coming for the 90-degree weather that's been plaguing the city, but you'll have to weather some thunderstorms first.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the five boroughs starting at noon on Tuesday and extending until 10 p.m. In addition to the Heat Advisory, which remains in place, there is also the potential for thunderstorms capable of "damaging wind gusts and torrential downpours."

There will be a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms beginning at 1 p.m., increasing to near 50 percent from 7 to 10 p.m. About 0.3 inches of rain is expected.

The high for Tuesday is 90 degrees with a heat index of about 101. This would be the sixth day in a row the temperature has been at least 90 degrees in Central Park, according to the NWS.

Once the thunderstorms roll through on Tuesday evening, the heat and humidity will take a small step backward. The high for Wednesday is 88 with heat index numbers of about the same.
