Suspicious Package At Trump Tower Deemed Safe, NYPD Says
Police shut down traffic on Fifth Avenue as the bomb squad investigated a suspicious package at Trump Tower.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A suspicious package at Trump Tower was deemed safe after the NYPD bomb squad searched the grounds of the Fifth Avenue skyscraper, an NYPD spokesman said. The all clear was given around 7 p.m., the spokesman said.
The suspicious package was first reported to police at 4:50 p.m., a police spokesman said. The NYPD could not provide details about the package at President Donald Trump's namesake Fifth Avenue tower.
Southbound traffic on Fifth Avenue was closed at 57th Street as cops continue the investigation, a police spokesman said.

Police presence was heavy outside Trump Tower as the NYPD investigated the suspicious objects, according to witness video from the scene. Larger NYPD trucks and patrol cars were stationed on Fifth Avenue during the investigation.

Trump and his family own the Fifth Avenue skyscraper's triplex penthouse but no longer live in the building year-round after moving to Washington D.C. Trump has stayed at the building on trips to New York City since becoming president. The NYPD estimates that it costs about $308,000 per day to secure the building while Trump is living there.
