Teen Critically Injured After Subway Surfing Incident, Police Say

NEW YORK CITY — A teenager was left critically injured after a subway surfing incident in New York City on Monday, police said.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. at the Baychester Avenue station in the Bronx, police said.

The teen, believed to be between the ages of 14 and 16 years old, was injured when he fell onto the tracks and made contact with an approaching No. 5 train, police said.

The boy suffered injuries to his head and was transported to Jacobi Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

The latest subway surfing incident comes after the MTA launched a new ad campaign aimed at curbing subway surfing deaths in the city, Patch previously reported.

The new campaign titled “Ride Inside, Stay Alive” was launched with the help of Queens-born professional BMX bike rider Nigel Sylvester, NYC Public Schools and the city's Department of Youth and Community Development.
