These Noisy NYC Hotels Keep Guests Up At Night
Some lodges party so hard that guests find it tough to catch some shut-eye, a new analysis shows.
NEW YORK — Weary tourists likely just want to catch some shut-eye in their New York City hotels after full days of wandering the city. But some lodges party so hard that they keep their guests up at night, a Localize.city analysis released Wednesday shows.
The data analysis website examined a year's worth of 311 data to determine which hotels racked up noise complaints on the most days from July 2017 through July 2018. The study identified 10 spots in Manhattan and Brooklyn where people griped about noise on at least 15 days.
The worst offender was the Dream Midtown, which got a total of 69 complaints over 49 days — or about once a week — over 12 months, Localize.city found.

The West 55th Street hotel is home to a luxurious rooftop bar called PHD Terrace that is open into the early morning hours. That and thin walls apparently make it hard for some guests to doze off and dream themselves.
One online reviewer whom Localize.city cited said one could hear "ordinary conversations next door—never mind the girls blaring music two doors down or the teenagers goofing off until 2 am."

"The walls are paper thin and the hotel is loud as hell," Yelp reviewer Jeffrey L. wrote in March 2017. "Unless you're looking for an overpriced Manhattan party scene, avoid this place at all costs."
Williamsburg's McCarren Hotel came in second in Localize.city's dubious ranking with 40 complaints over 22 days. The spot also has a sprawling rooftop bar and pool that have long disturbed neighbors, the site says.
The bulk of of the McCarren's complaints were for "loud music/partying," while others reported "loud talking" and "banging/pounding," according to Localize.city.
"I've filed multiple noise complaints and so have many other local residents in this neighborhood. The hotel doesn't care or do anything," Lucy M. wrote on Yelp in May 2017. "The city has tried, but 'new management' has found a way to keep blasting music in their outdoor patio."
The Lower East Side proved a hotbed for obnoxious hotels — three of the top 10 noisemakers are located there, according to Localize.city, while Downtown Brooklyn and Midtown are home to two each.
Putting such data out in the open helps people make "more informed decisions" when they're picking a place to stay, Localize.city President Steve Kalifowitz said.
"Providing this knowledge helps you ask the right questions before you move or visit," Kalifowitz told the site. "The bottom line is: no one should be surprised."
