Tornado Warning Issued For NYC

Tornadoes are possible as storms reach NYC Tuesday.

NEW YORK CITY — A tornado warning has been issued for the city as a series of storms approaches.

The warning is in place until 3 p.m. Tuesday, the National Weather Service said.

The warning was put in place specifically for Manhattan and The Bronx, as well as Westchester County and parts of Long Island.

The NWS warned: "Heavy rainfall may hide this tornado. Do not wait to see or hear the tornado. TAKE COVER NOW!"

The storm that was causing the threat was at East Tremont in The Bronx about 2:33 p.m. and was moving east at 50 mph, the NWS said.

The rest of the city was under a severe thunderstorm watch.

The storms are also expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds and hail.
