- New York State's budget is still being negotiated passed its April 1 deadline, and likely won't be finished until April 10, Governor Kathy Hochul and state representatives said. - Three Brooklyn individuals were among those awarded cannabis licenses in New York on Monday, making them the first in the borough, including Misha Morse-Buch, the owner of I Love My Pet Food and Supplies. Overall other boroughs and regions, including Queens and Long Island, still got larger amounts of licenses. (THE CITY)
- The City Council released its own budget proposal, two months after Mayor Adams released his own. It calls for expanding reduced-price subway and bus fares to New Yorkers making up to 200 percent above the federal poverty line–meaning an income of $60,000 for a family of four–and greater spending on a range of city services. (Gothamist)
- The iconic Papaya King hot dogs joint is officially being evicted from its home for the past 90 years on the Upper East Side, and moving just 300 feet away, its attorneys say, following a court battle that's been ongoing since 2020, and as a developer has plans for an undisclosed project at Papaya King's current location.
