Violent Weekend In NYC Claims At Least Six Lives, Police Say

NEW YORK CITY — A Chinatown woman was stabbed to death by a stalker, a man died of a gunshot wound to the face, and two teenagers face attempted murder charges for shooting an off-duty cop in the foot, according to police.

This violent weekend of car crashes, shootings and stabbings in New York City claimed the lives of at least six people between Friday and Sunday, stunning New Yorkers and its elected officials.

"This is the definition of horrific," Mayor Eric Adams said of the death of Christina Yuna Lee, who appears to have died a brutal death at the hands of a man who followed her home.

"We won’t let this violence go unchecked."

Homicides

Lee, 35, was stabbed to death in her bathroom on Chrystie and Grand streets sometime before 4:20 a.m. Sunday by a man captured on surveillance footage following her home, according to police and reports.

Police found a clothed 56-year-old woman dead in her bathtub while conducting a wellness check at her home on East 100th Street near Third Avenue about 6:15 p.m. Friday, according to the NYPD.

The woman appeared to have suffered head wounds, but the exact cause of death remained under investigation, police said.

Wayne Smith, 28, stands accused of fatally shooting Arnold Oliver, 24, in the chest and Jamal Smith, 28, in the face near East 198 Street and Webster Avenue in The Bronx on Saturday just before 11 p.m., police said.

Smith shares a home address, age and surname with his second victim, who died, as Oliver did, in Saint Barnabas Hospital, police said.

Attempted Murder

Two teenagers were arrested Friday for allegedly shooting an off-duty police office in the foot outside the Manhattanville Houses on Broadway and West 130th Street the weekend before, police said.

The 47-year-old officer was in stable condition after his violent encounter on Feb. 5, and a 16- and 17-year-old face attempted murder charges, police said.

Fatal Crashes

A 60-year-old man was mowed down by a BMW while trying to cross Jerome Avenue near Featherbed Lane in The Bronx Sunday about 7 p.m., police said.

The 21-year-old driver stayed at the scene, police said; the identity of man, who died in the street, had not been released as of Monday morning.

Terah Saucier, 17, died after he tried to cross Kings Highway and was hit by a BMW driven by a 19-year-old, near Avenue K in Brooklyn about 7 p.m. Saturday, according to police.

Medics rushed Saucier to Kings County Hospital, but doctors were unable to save his life, police said.

Hate Crime

Antisemitic graffiti was found on the front window of a Forest Hills dental office on Harrow Street, according to a picture shared by local City Council Member Lynn Schulman.

An expletive was scrawled next to the word "Jews," the photo shows.
