July 4th In NYC: What's Open, Closed
Anything fireworks-related is open. Pretty much everything else is closed.
NEW YORK CITY — July 4 is here — and (most) New Yorkers will be appropriately free from their workweek routines.
But that freedom Tuesday comes with a slight cost.
Much of New York City's public-facing government offices will have the day off too, as will some important businesses. And public transit will run on a slightly different schedule.

Here's a look at what will be open and closed on Monday as New Yorkers celebrate America's birthday.
Government Buildings

- City, state and federal government buildings, including courts and post offices, are closed. New York City public schools got out for the summer last week.
- Mail will not be delivered.
- Most banks will be closed.
- Libraries will be closed.
Transportation
- New York City subways and buses will run on a Saturday schedule on Tuesday. Full length trains will run on the Rockaway Park Shuttle to accommodate increased ridership to the beach. And service will be bolstered on 7 train and 42nd Street Shuttle in the evening for the Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks display.
Parking
- Alternate side parking rules will be suspended.
Trash pickup
- Garbage, recycling and compost collection will not occur on July 4. There will also be no street cleaning.
- Residents whose usual garbage or compost pickup day is Tuesday should put their trash out to the curb that night for collection beginning Wednesday, July 5.
- Residents whose usual recycling pickup day is Tuesday should hold their material for a week and place it curbside the night of Monday, July 10 for pickup the next day.
