NEW YORK — Two major religious holidays happen to overlap this year. April 19 marks both the start of Passover, the roughly weeklong commemoration of the Jewish people's liberation from slavery, and Good Friday, the Christian remembrance of Jesus's crucifixion.

Neither are recognized as official government holidays, but plenty of New Yorkers may take the day off to observe the occasions. Students have a reason to celebrate, too — Friday is also the first day of spring recess in New York City's public schools.

Here's a look at what will be open and closed on Good Friday and the start of Passover.
