What's Open, Closed On Memorial Day 2019 In NYC

The national holiday honors military heroes and marks the unofficial start of summer. Here's what will be open and closed for the occasion.

NEW YORK — For decades, Memorial Day has served dual purposes in New York City and across the country. It marks the unofficial start of summer and an occasion to honor Americans who have died while serving in the military.

While many New Yorkers will celebrate the former with cookouts and weekend getaways, they'll also observe the latter with parades on Monday, May 27 in at least three boroughs. The Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day Parade is the biggest, and this year it will welcome Rear Adm. Jack Buono, the superintendent of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, as its grand marshal.

But those who stay in the city to celebrate will have to adjust their routines, as government buildings will be closed and the subway schedule will be a little off. Here's a look at what's open and closed for Memorial Day in the five boroughs.
