Box Truck Critically Injures 83-Year-Old Woman Crossing NYC Street

The box truck struck the victim as it was attempting to make a left turn onto Second Ave., police said.

NEW YORK CITY — An 83-year-old woman was critically injured after she was struck by a box truck while crossing a Manhattan street on Wednesday.

The woman was crossing the street at E. 45th St. and Second Ave. in Midtown around 2:20 p.m. when she was hit, police said.

The 83-year-old victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition with severe injuries to her leg.

After being struck, the victim was left unconscious on the ground and "her leg was gone," a witness told the New York Daily News.

The box truck driver remained on at the scene, police said.

No arrests have been made as of Thursday evening, and an investigation remains ongoing.
