World Trade Center Tower To Be Lit In Honor Of Notre-Dame Fire
The spire at One World Trade Center will glow with the colors of the French flag after a fire heavily damaged the legendary cathedral.
NEW YORK — One of New York City's most iconic buildings will be lit up Tuesday evening to honor a legendary Paris landmark. The spire of One World Trade Center will glow with the colors of the French flag in a show of solidarity a day after a fire devasted the Notre-Dame cathedral, Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office said.
"Our hearts ached as we watched a devastating fire ravage one of the world's most sacred and celebrated religious monuments," Cuomo said in a statement. "... New York stands in solidarity with the people of France and Catholics worldwide who are mourning this tremendous loss."
New Yorkers mourned as the blaze ravaged the centuries-old cathedral, reportedly causing its spire and roof to collapse. French President Emmanuel Macron pledged to rebuild the Catholic landmark before firefighters fully extinguished the blaze Tuesday morning, according to the Associated Press.

Cuomo, who is himself Catholic, thanked the first-responders who fought to save parts of "this significant piece of French and Catholic history."
The Democratic governor also ordered the World Trade Center tower's 408-foot spire to be lit blue, white and red after a terrorist attack in Paris killed more than 100 people in November 2015.
